Position Summary

The Department of Visual Arts at Anne Arundel Community College is seeking qualified candidates for Graphic Design part-time Instructors to teach one to two courses per semester in person. 

The Graphic Design Instructor will teach fundamental concepts in graphic design, visual communication, typography, layout design, and branding. The Graphic Design Instructor will follow the college's curriculum, engage students in hands-on projects, and teach industry-standard software and techniques. This role requires a passion for teaching, creativity, and a strong understanding of graphic design principles and technologies.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Teach graphic design courses in accordance with the community college's curriculum and class schedule, ensuring alignment with learning objectives and course outcomes. 

Plan and deliver dynamic and engaging lectures and demonstrations that teach the elements and principles of design and how to apply them to effectively communicate concepts visually. 

Instruct students on the use of the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign). 

Facilitate hands-on learning experiences, including design projects, assignments, and critiques, to enhance students' practical skills and foster their creativity. 
Guide students in developing a strong understanding of visual communication, concept development, typography, color theory, composition, branding, and layout design. 

Provide timely and constructive feedback on student work, helping them refine their design skills, aesthetics, and problem-solving abilities. 

Support students in building their design portfolios. 

Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment that encourages collaboration, critical thinking, and ethical design practices. 

Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and academic progress in compliance with college policies. 

Provide regular communication and availability to answer student questions. 

Required Qualifications:

Candidates should have a master's degree and at least two years' full-time professional work experience in graphic design, OR a bachelor's degree and five years' work experience. 

Strong proficiency in the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign). 

Solid understanding of graphic design principles, concepts, typography, color theory, composition, and layout design. 

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage and support students from diverse backgrounds and skill levels. 

Ability to adapt teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles and utilize active learning strategies. 

Passion for teaching and inspiring students to think creatively, critically, and ethically in the field of graphic design.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience teaching in higher education or industry training programs is preferred but not required. 

Master's degree preferred.
