AACC is a tenure granting institution. Any candidate hired as a full-time faculty member may be eligible to apply for tenure in the future based on institutional eligibility requirements. This position requires regular in-person presence on campus or at alternative locations, depending on class schedule and other assigned duties. Flexible teaching schedules may be available based student need. AACC offers daytime, evening, weekend classes, hybrid and online classes.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

AACC seeks an instructor or assistant professor to serve primarily as Academic Chair/Coordinator in the Achieving College and Career Advancement (ACA) Department with a secondary appointment in Mathematics. This joint faculty position will report to both the Assistant Dean of Transfer Studies and Achieving College & Career Advancement and to the Assistant Dean, Mathematics. The faculty member will receive some course release and be responsible for managing content, scheduling, Learning Outcomes Assessment, and instructor hiring, coordination, and professional development for AACC’s three one-credit ACA courses:
• Student Success Seminar (ACA-100)
• Success in the Online Classroom (ACA-110)
• Achieving Career Success (ACA-120)

The ACA-100 Student Success Seminar is offered in face-to-face and online formats in fall, winter, spring, and summer terms and enrolls approximately 400 students per year. It is offered at all three campus locations. This course is open to all students and is required in some programs. The other ACA courses are offered online only in spring and fall with enrollments of 10 – 20 students.

In addition to coordination described above, this faculty member will teach 1-3 credits of ACA courses and an additional 3 – 6 credits in developmental math or first-year general education math (college algebra, statistics, pre-calculus/calculus I) each fall and spring term. This position will require face-to-face and online teaching.

Responsibilities:
Primary responsibilities:
• Thirty faculty load hour annual contract taught during fall and spring terms – including face-to-face, online or hybrid instruction and instruction at off-site locations (including high schools) depending on student need
• Six office hours per week during the fall and spring terms which may include student advising and mentoring
• Teaching and assessing student learning
• Professional development
• Department, school and college/community service

In addition to a faculty member’s primary responsibilities, the exceptional candidate will also demonstrate commitment and experience in one or more of the following areas:
1. Mentoring students from target groups; new full-time or part-time faculty
2. Designing, formatting and delivering curriculum for all learning modalities
3. Training and consulting for workforce initiatives (e.g., for public and corporate partners, etc.)
4. Developing and implementing community education and extended learning programs
5. Partnering with colleagues to enhance services to students and the community
6. Recruiting and marketing
7. Devising retention strategies and activities
8. Establishing and strengthening relationships and collaborative activities including K-12 and baccalaureate-granting colleges

Required Qualifications:

• Master's degree or higher in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, Statistics, or a closely related field with at least 15 graduate credit hours in mathematics
• Minimum of 15 credit hours of college-level teaching
• Ability to teach a wide range of community college mathematics courses including developmental and credit-level courses
• Experience integrating technology and innovative teaching strategies to improve student learning
• Experience working collaboratively with colleagues

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bilingual or other language proficiency.

• Experience with First-Year Experience, Student Success courses, student advising, or counseling.

• Community college teaching experience
• Experience teaching face-to-face and online formats
• Knowledge of the mission of community colleges and issues directly related to serving community college students.
