AACC is a tenure granting institution. Any candidate hired as a full-time faculty member may be eligible to apply for tenure in the future based on institutional eligibility requirements. This position requires regular in-person presence on campus or at alternative locations, depending on class schedule and other assigned duties. Flexible teaching schedules may be available based student need. AACC offers daytime, evening, weekend classes, hybrid and online classes.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

A strong psychology candidate should demonstrate a proven ability to teach college-level psychology courses, with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching through the use of evidence-based, inclusive, and antiracist pedagogies that support diversity, equity, and inclusion while fostering knowledge, skills, and a spirit of inquiry. Additionally, excellence in oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills is expected. The ideal candidate must be able to form collaborative and supportive relationships that enhance our commitment to student success, student engagement, and equity initiatives in higher education. Teaching assignments may include in-person, hybrid, and online courses. Full-time faculty are expected to participate on committees in the department, school of Liberal Arts, and the college. Candidates should be committed to student-centered, outcomes-based education with experience incorporating multiple instructional strategies, including the use of technology. Additionally, candidates should be proven team players with an ongoing commitment to personal and professional development and the ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body.

Responsibilities:
Primary responsibilities:
• Thirty faculty load hour annual contract taught during fall and spring terms – including face-to-face, online or hybrid instruction and instruction at off-site locations (including high schools) depending on student need
• Six office hours per week during the fall and spring terms which may include student advising and mentoring
• Teaching and assessing student learning
• Professional development
• Department, school and college/community service

In addition to a faculty member’s primary responsibilities, the exceptional candidate will also demonstrate commitment and experience in one or more of the following areas:
1. Mentoring students from target groups; new full-time or part-time faculty
2. Designing, formatting and delivering curriculum for all learning modalities
3. Training and consulting for workforce initiatives (e.g., for public and corporate partners, etc.)
4. Developing and implementing community education and extended learning programs
5. Partnering with colleagues to enhance services to students and the community
6. Recruiting and marketing
7. Devising retention strategies and activities
8. Establishing and strengthening relationships and collaborative activities including K-12 and baccalaureate-granting colleges

Required Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in Psychology or a related field.
• At least 2 years of full-time college teaching experience or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Earned doctorate in Psychology or a related field, with graduate coursework in abnormal psychology, gender studies, human sexuality, multicultural psychology, developmental psychology, or related fields.
• Continued maintenance of professional competencies in the subject area and currency in instructional methodologies through professional associations and professional development.
• Effective leadership, team building skills, and a strong commitment to working with diverse students, faculty, administration, and community members.
• Experience with using an online learning management system.
• Experience with teaching synchronous and/or asynchronous online courses.
• Bilingual or other language proficiency
