Position Summary
The Behavior Specialist provides guidance, support, and practical strategies to parents located in the Brooklyn Park area through programming associated with the TEACH Institute at Anne Arundel Community College. The primary goal is to empower parents, helping them become confident, effective and emotionally connected caregivers. Additionally, the Behavior Specialist develops curriculum, connects families with resources, and conducts progress tracking in conjunction with grants and other contracts funded through parent initiatives. Specific duties include referral-based parent coaching, including child observations, development/delivery of parent education programming, diligent record keeping and ongoing professional development.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
● Conduct behavioral assessment, through observation, assessment, and one on one coaching
● Meet with parents to develop behavior management plans/goals
● Support and assist throughout the implementation of management plans
● Monitor and track children’s progress
● Provide resources, consultation and additional training
● Provide parent support via phone, email or in person
● Refer parents to resources and other professionals as needed
Parent Education Programming
● Coordinate with representatives from various external partners/clients to tailor programming, classes and training to meet quality education objectives
● Develop parent education programming to include child development and effective parenting strategies
● Present parent education programming in multiple formats (in person and online)
Required Qualifications:
● Bachelors degree
● Minimum of two years of relevant experience
● Ability to work effectively with diverse students and families
● Strong understanding of child development and family systems
● Knowledge of community parenting resources and services
● Ability to work independently and within a team
● Highly organized, with strong attention to detail and time-management skills
● Proficiency in using educational technology and digital resources
Preferred Qualifications:
● Fluency in Spanish preferred
