Position Summary
The Behavior Specialist provides support for teen parents enrolled in the Anne Arundel County Public Schools (AACPS) Teen Parent Education Program. Specific duties include in-center home visits with parents, child observations and collaboration with childcare staff, facilitating monthly group seminars, liaising with center staff, teaching staff professional development, diligent record keeping and ongoing professional development.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
One on One Meetings with Teen Parents
● Meet with parents to support their parenting needs and set goals
● Teach parents how to track their child’s development using the CDC Milestones
● Collaborate with center staff to provide wrap around supports for parents
● Connect parents with career and college resources, to include AACC
Child Observations
● Observe children in the childcare classroom weekly
● Use the CDC Milestones to track development and also develop activities to use during observations with children
● Collaborate with childcare staff to support families
Monthly Parenting Seminars
● Facilitate group sessions on parenting topics
● Develop plans, gather resources
Connection to higher education and workforce development
● Support teen parents to set goals for post-graduation
● Connect center staff with AACC resources and staff
● Facilitate annual field trip to AACC
Other Professional Responsibilities
● Ongoing professional development
● Reflective Supervision with AACC staff
● Maintain diligent records
● Serve as a liaison with center staff to facilitate collaboration and address onsite needs
Required Qualifications:
● Bachelors degree
● Minimum of two years of relevant experience
● Ability to work effectively with diverse students and families
● Strong understanding of child development and family systems
● Knowledge of community parenting resources and services
● Ability to work independently and within a team
● Highly organized, with strong attention to detail and time-management skills
● Proficiency in using educational technology and digital resources
Preferred Qualifications:
● Fluency in Spanish preferred
