Work Mode: This position requires regular in-person presence on campus and at alternative locations, depending on class schedule and other assigned duties.

Position Summary

The AACC Writing Center is looking for tutors to staff our in-person, Zoom on Demand (online drop in), and Virtual Writing Center (Zoom by appointment) services. Modalities are in-person at the Arnold campus (daytime) and online synchronous (Zoom) during daytime, evening, or weekend hours. Tutors assist students in all disciplines and members of the community at any stage of the writing process with organization, structure, conformity with assignment, grammar/mechanics, ethical source use, and documentation (MLA or APA).

Pay dates occur on the 7th and 22nd of each month. If those dates fall on a weekend, the pay date occurs on the Friday prior to the 7th and 22nd.

The college will annually review this restriction and, if appropriate, expand the list of states of employment eligibility.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Provide one-on-one tutoring in person and/or on Zoom for students and members of the community engaged in writing projects at any stage of the process. Assist with organization, structure, conformity with assignment, grammar/mechanics, ethical source use, and documentation (MLA or APA).
Track and report service usage.

Required Qualifications:

A master’s degree or higher in English or a closely related field.

Previous college-level teaching experience in English or a closely related field and/or previous college-level Writing Center tutoring experience.

Attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.

Ability to work effectively and tactfully with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff, and the public.

Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to multitask.

Technological proficiency with instructional and communication platforms and apps, including but not limited to Zoom, Canvas LMS, and Microsoft Office.

Preferred Qualifications:

At least two years college-level teaching or Writing Center tutoring experience.

Experience working with English Language Learners.
