Position Summary
The Behavior Specialist is responsible for providing guidance, support, and practical strategies to parents through programing associated with the TEACH Institute at Anne Arundel Community College. The primary goal is to empower parents, helping them become confident, effective, and emotionally connected caregivers. Additionally, the Behavior Specialist develops curriculum, connects families with resources, and conducts progress tracking in conjunction with grants and other contracts funded through parenting initiatives.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Conduct behavioral assessments, through observations, formal screening tools, and one on one coaching for parents and other significant persons in the target child's environment.
Develop behavior management plans, based on observation, assessments, and one on one coaching for parents and other significant persons in the target child's environment.
Support and assist parents and other significant people throughout the implementation of the management plan. Monitor each child's progress on a regular basis until discharge. Ensure completion of pre- and post- assessments to evaluate progress, file related paperwork. Provide resources, consultation and additional training for parents and/or other significant people as tools to support the plan.
Provide parent support via phone, e-mail or in person. This support may be in the form of answering inquiries about the management plans, accessing resources, or other general parenting information. Refer clients to resources and other professionals as needed.
Develop, maintain and act as a liaison for parenting programs throughout Anne Arundel County by supporting parenting projects, initiatives and programs. Coordinate with representatives from various external partners/clients to tailor classes and trainings to meet quality education objectives. Ability to use college standard computerized data systems and a variety of data, word processing, and other related hardware and software.
Required Qualifications:
Two to Five years of relevant experience
Bachelors degree
Strong understanding of child development and family systems.
Knowledge of community parenting resources and services.
Ability to work independently and within a team.
Proficiency in using educational technology and digital resources.
