Position Summary

The Director of Cloud and Endpoint Solutions is responsible for the overall direction, operation, and coordination of the Hybrid Cloud Engineering and Systems Administration teams. This individual makes recommendations for enhancements, upgrades and new products to meet the dynamic needs of the college while also supporting these technologies with their respective teams as needed. The individual provides leadership, management, and hands-on technical expertise to both Hybrid Cloud Engineering (HCE) and Systems Administration (SA) staff while maintaining partnerships with various Directors, technical teams, and customers for their initiatives. The Director oversees the projects for the area and ensures efficient and effective technical operations.

Pay dates occur on the 7th and 22nd of each month. If those dates fall on a weekend, the pay date occurs on the Friday prior to the 7th and 22nd. As an employee of the college, you are eligible for a comprehensive benefits package. .

In the best interest of the College, only individuals who are residents of Maryland or one of the following states will be eligible for employment at the college: Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia or the District of Columbia. The college will annually review this restriction and, if appropriate, expand the list of states of employment eligibility.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Serves as the owner of server & endpoint management processes and systems used by technology staff to manage legacy on-prem and cloud-based systems (servers & services) in addition to endpoint devices (PCs, MACs, laptops, mobile devices, printers, MFDs) on and off premises collegewide.

Leads HCE and SA staff and provides guidance and support in the selection, implementation and maintenance of appropriate on-prem, cloud, and endpoint systems and tools for use college wide.

Responsible for ensuring the accuracy and effectiveness of standards, processes, and procedures used internally by HCE and SA staff with regards to the management and maintenance of on-prem, offsite, and cloud resources in a secure manner.

Provides oversight and hands-on technical support as needed in the implementation, maintenance, security, and support of Microsoft Azure cloud-based systems for both Administrative and Instructional applications including but not limited to: Active Directory, ADAudit, Azure AD, Azure Virtual Desktop, Azure Lab Services, Azure Virtual Machines (Servers), Adobe Creative Cloud, ARCGIS Online, AutoCAD, CommVault, Dentrix/Dexis, DeepFreeze, FMAAudit, Fusion360, Ivanti Patch management, JAMF, Maple, Microsoft 365, Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager, Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft Intune, Microsoft PowerBI, Microsoft OneDrive, Microsoft Teams, SAN, Pearson Vue, Pritn Manager Plus, Quadiant, Varonis, Virtualization, VMWare (ESXi), etc.

Works closely staff to ensure availability of supported cloud tools and services used on all college managed workstations.

Leads the HCE staff in the administration and operation of servers including, but not limited to, configuring and maintaining standard server operating system images, building and deploying server resources, versioning and upgrading Windows servers at a regular cadence to maintain security and support.

Responsible for overseeing the monthly patching of servers supporting resources to Administrative and Instructional areas.

Responsible for overseeing the regular server backups and backup testing of Administrative and Instructional areas utilizing Commvault.

Leads the SA staff in the administration and operation of client management tools including, but not limited to, configuring and maintaining the tool(s), creating and loading of operating system images, building and deploying packages, versioning Windows and MacOS devices at a regular cadence to maintain security and support.

Responsible for overseeing the monthly patching of devices in computer labs, instructional, and administrative areas.

Leads staff in the secure administration of various network resources such as network printers, multi-function devices group policies and home directories.

Leads a combined staff of HCE and SA team members in various IIT related projects, ensuring that project management and change management best practices are followed; complying with IIT security and accessibility standards.

Works closely with stakeholders to define requirements, ensures proper testing, and oversees adherence to change management procedures.

Oversees collaboration with various third-party vendors and partners to configure systems and implement changes as necessary

Provides oversight and leadership to ensure availability of various legacy on-prem and cloud-based resources by monitoring systems and services used at all AACC locations; including the Arnold location and other remote sites.

Work closely with other IIT teams to ensure appropriate disaster recovery and business continuity plans are in place and current.

Leads and coaches HCE and SA teams, sets goals, identifies professional development opportunities, communicates effectively, and processes leave.

Fosters a positive and supportive environment where staff are respected, motivated, and accountable.

Ensures necessary technical training, awareness, and experience levels are maintained within the HCE and SA teams.

Works to ensure all digital content and IT solutions promote a secure, inclusive, and accessible digital environment (current WCAG standards)

Regularly conducts research, attends training, and encourages staff to remain abreast of new technologies.
Works with team to documents and share how new technologies can enhance academic and technology services.

Collaborates with internal and external IIT professionals to ensure systems will function in a complex environment, integrating with technologies such as network security/firewall systems, DHCP, DNS, monitoring systems, storage area networks, directory services, authentication systems, and other related infrastructure services.

Participates in regular Azure Architecture Review Board (ARB) meetings, contributing to technical, security, system design reviews.

Leads the teams responsible for addressing complex escalated issues. Performing hands-on problem resolution, as needed to support the needs of the team.

Reports to Vice President of Information and Instructional Technology on all technical issues and opportunities relevant to the area of responsibility.

Communicates all technical issues to the Information and Instructional Technology Strategic Council.

Represent IIT by serving on appropriate college committees to provide input about technology and its future direction.

Collaborates with Information and Instructional Technology leadership to develop, maintain, and enforce processes and procedures for the area.

Prepare recommendations and effectively manage budgets for areas of responsibility

Benchmarks, analyzes, reports on, and makes recommendations for the improvement and growth of systems and services.

Responsible for staffing capacity planning ensuring resources are in alignment with business objectives

Responsible for ongoing Azure Cost Management.
Provides ongoing cost monitoring, and cost reporting. Monitors ongoing burn rate of the environment and communicates potential issues to leadership team.
Oversees Azure cost investigations as needed to determine the root cause of any unexpected fees or overages based on AACC cloud presence.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in the field of information systems, engineering, computer science or a related discipline.

Minimum of 8 years’ experience in the development, implementation, and management of enterprise IT systems. Experience in independently resolving complex technical issues at an enterprise level.

Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a leadership position supervising technical staff and 3 years performing hands-on administration of enterprise tools. Examples: Server, Network, Storage, Backup, Virtualization, Hybrid Cloud, Software, Windows / MacOS desktop OS, Ivanti, Active Directory, EntraID, VMWare, SQL, Security, network protocols and cloud services.

Minimum of 4 years’ experience in project management and leadership with demonstrated success in leading technical teams and executing technical projects.

Minimum of 3 years’ experience supporting cloud-based systems.

Experience leading and managing systems administration staff. Experience leading large, cross-functional team(s) in technical projects.
Proven ability to multi-task and handle multiple projects and operational deadlines.

Strong written and oral communication skills include the ability to explain technical information to non-technical staff and leadership.

Self-motivated and able to work in a team environment with the ability to interface with all levels of staff.

Experience with change management processes to effectively communicate changes, develop testing and remediation plans to minimize side effects of hardware and software changes.

Experience in working with vendors, licensing, and contracts.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree in related discipline.

Experience in a higher-education environment.

Microsoft Associate Level Certification
