AACC is a tenure-granting institution. Any candidate hired as a full-time faculty member may be eligible to apply for tenure in the future based on institutional eligibility requirements. AACC offers daytime, evening, weekend, hybrid and online classes. Full-time faculty contracts begin Aug. 16 and end June 15
Pay dates occur on the 7th and 22nd of each month. If those dates fall on a weekend, the pay date occurs on the Friday prior to the 7th and 22nd. As an employee of the college, you are eligible for a comprehensive benefits package. .

Job Duties and Responsibilities
The Department of Social Sciences, Philosophy, and Interdisciplinary Studies at Anne Arundel Community College (AACC) is seeking a broadly trained and innovative Instructor or Assistant Professor of Geography to join our faculty starting August 2025. The successful candidate will play a vital role in advancing AACC's mission to transform lives and foster an engaged, inclusive society. This full-time position involves a commitment to excellence in teaching, learner engagement, and service. Faculty members at AACC are expected to be enthusiastic, energetic, collegial, and student-centered.
Key Responsibilities:
· Teaching and Course Development:
o Teach a variety of undergraduate courses in human geography, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and physical/environmental geography, with experience in at least two of these areas and a willingness to teach the third.
o Develop and deliver current, relevant, and thought-provoking lessons that develop critical thinking skills and integrate contemporary perspectives, such as (but not limited to) critical physical geography, environmental justice, critical cartography and GIS, and geographic thought.
o Emphasize applied learning that combines foundational knowledge with contemporary innovations to prepare students for practical applications in both every day and professional contexts.
o Employ innovative pedagogical approaches in face-to-face, hybrid, and online formats.
o Fulfill a teaching load of fifteen credit-hours per semester, adapting to the needs of traditional community college students and dual-enrolled high school students.
Student Engagement and College Service:
o Provide academic advising and support for student learning, fostering engagement through dynamic teaching and experiential learning opportunities.
o Participate in departmental, student, and college activities, contributing to a vibrant academic community.
o Participate actively in departmental and college-wide initiatives and service opportunities including faculty meetings, curriculum development, and learning outcomes assessment.
o Serve as an advocate and role model for professional and academic growth, encouraging student participation in relevant projects, internships, and community-based learning.

Required Qualifications:
· Master’s degree in Geography or a closely related field
· Experience teaching the equivalent of 12 credits of geography course(s) in a higher education setting as the instructor of record
Preferred Qualifications:
Earned doctorate in Geography or a closely related field. with 24 graduate credit hours in Geography/GIS
· At least 1 year of full-time college teaching experience or equivalent
· Teaching Experience in 2 of 3: human geography, GIS, and physical/environmental geography
