Work Mode: This position requires some regular in-person presence on campus or at alternative locations, depending on business needs of the office.

Position Summary

The Pre-CDL Driver Instructor is responsible for preparing students to successfully enter a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) training program. This role focuses on teaching foundational driving skills, safety practices, and basic vehicle knowledge to individuals with little to no prior commercial driving experience. The instructor provides both classroom and hands-on instruction to build confidence, competence, and readiness for CDL certification.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

• Deliver classroom instruction on basic driving principles, road safety, and traffic laws
• Provide simulation training on vehicle operation, including steering, braking, backing, and maneuvering
• Teach pre-trip inspection basics and general vehicle safety checks
• Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback
• Maintain a safe and supportive learning environment
• Develop lesson plans and training materials aligned with CDL readiness standards
• Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal safety regulations
• Track attendance, performance, and completion records for all students
• Prepare students for entry into formal CDL training programs

Required Qualifications:

• Valid CDL license required
• Clean driving record
• Previous experience in driver training, transportation, or education preferred
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Patience and ability to work with individuals of varying skill levels
• Knowledge of basic vehicle operation and safety procedures
• Ability to pass background check
• Five (5) years of relevant experience
• HIgh school degree or equivalent
