Position Summary

The Simulation Laboratory Technician supports the delivery of simulation-based education under the guidance of the Manager of Laboratory and Simulation Education within the School of Health Sciences by managing and operating simulation technologies. The Simulation Laboratory Technician is responsible for the setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting of simulation equipment, including high-fidelity manikins, audio-visual systems, and related software and ensures the smooth operation of simulation activities by providing technical expertise and hands-on support. Working collaboratively with faculty, simulation educators, and standardized patients, the technician assists in ensuring realistic and effective learning experiences that align with curriculum goals and industry standards. The position also involves inventory management, technical support, and continuous improvement of simulation operations to enhance student engagement and clinical competency.

Pay dates occur on the 7th and 22nd of each month. If those dates fall on a weekend, the pay date occurs on the Friday prior to the 7th and 22nd. As an employee of the college, you are eligible for a comprehensive  benefits package .

In the best interest of the College, only individuals who are residents of Maryland or one of the following states will be eligible for employment at the college: Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia or the District of Columbia. The college will annually review this restriction and, if appropriate, expand the list of states of employment eligibility.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Technical Support & Equipment Management: Set up, maintain, and troubleshoot audio-visual (A/V) systems and simulation-related computer software.

Operate and maintain high-fidelity manikins and associated simulation technologies.

Evaluate and manage A/V and simulation equipment to ensure optimal performance.

Simulation Laboratory Operations: Set up and maintain simulation laboratory spaces, to include but not limited to preparing supplies and equipment for simulation labs, cleaning up supplies, equipment, and manikins once simulation lab is complete and restocking simulation lab supplies as needed for each lab.

Technology & Software Oversight: Manage maintenance contracts and service agreements for simulation technology. Program simulation scenarios and configure software to meet instructional needs.

Inventory and Supply Management: Procure, organize, and maintain medical supplies essential for simulation-based training, including items such as but not limited to, IV equipment, infusion pumps, and wound care materials. Ensure all necessary resources are readily available to support realistic, high-quality simulation scenarios. Supports the tracking and management of inventory for all simulation equipment, A/V components, and related software.

Collaboration & Program Implementation: In collaboration with the Manager of Laboratory and Simulation Education, Laboratory and Simulation staff, and Health Sciences faculty, implement and assess simulation technologies, apply industry standards, and best practices to enhance the effectiveness of simulation programs.

Maintenance and Support of Simulation Technology: Perform routine maintenance and initiates repairs for simulation equipment, including coordinating service for items under warranty. Communicates with equipment manufacturers to address maintenance needs, software updates, repairs, and technological advancements.
Assists in organizing and updating reference documentation for simulation devices and associated A/V and computer systems and maintaining accurate records of service contracts, warranties, and maintenance schedules for simulation technologies.

Standardized Patient Program Support: In coordination with the Lab and Simulation Manager and Coordinator, recruit, train, communicate and schedule Standardized Patients (SPs) to support clinical simulation and healthcare education activities.
Assists in the development and delivery of orientation and training sessions to ensure SPs accurately and consistently portray medical scenarios in alignment with educational objectives. Coordinates SP schedules in collaboration with faculty and simulation staff to meet program needs and ensure adequate coverage.
Serves as a point of contact for SPs, maintains accurate records of SP participation, and availability to support ongoing program planning and quality assurance.

Professional Development in Simulation Technologies: Stays up to date with emerging simulation technologies and best practices by participating in continuing education, training programs, and professional development opportunities.
Actively develops and maintains expertise in both existing and newly implemented technologies within the School of Health Sciences to support evolving simulation needs.


Required Qualifications:

Associate's degree

Minimum of six months of relevant experience

Demonstrated knowledge of the manikins, equipment, supplies and software used in educational health care simulation.

Demonstrated knowledge of health care simulation instruction.

Ability to handle confidential information, be adaptable to various competing demands, demonstrate customer centric service and ability to handle conflict when necessary.

Ability to work collaborative with various departments and or external constituents.

Ability to build relationships.

Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.

Demonstrated commitment to creating an inclusive environment, the ability to deal tactfully with all internal and external constituents and the ability to work collegiately with a culturally diverse group of students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

Ability to lift, bend, stoop and stand/walk for extended periods of time.

This position requires an in-person presence on campus.

Preferred Qualifications:

Understanding of health care educational requirements.

Completion of or agree to complete Certification in Simulation Education (CHSE or CHSOS.)

Previous health care experience (ex., RN, LPN, Paramedic)

Previous experience working for a health sciences higher education institution.
