Position Summary

The Instructional Specialist in the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) department is responsible for providing high-quality education with associated curriculum development. Instruction and curriculum development will be in the areas of the emergency medical responder (EMR), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), and paramedic programming. Responsibilities include instruction in a variety of formats such as simulation, synchronous and asynchronous online education, in-person traditional classroom format, clinical and laboratory education, course planning, curriculum enhancements, learning outcomes, maintaining attendance, posting grades, tutoring, mentoring, and following college procedures. This position will mentor full-time and part-time faculty/staff in the lab
and simulation, in addition to working with other AACC programs to incorporate lab and simulation into their curriculum in conjunction with paramedic cohorts.

This position reports to the Director, EMS Education

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Instruction and Instructional Support: Designs and develops comprehensive curriculum for all levels of EMS education, ensuring alignment with industry standards and educational best practices. Delivers engaging and effective instruction in both credit and non-credit EMS programs, utilizing a variety of teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles. Provides mentoring, tutoring, and advising to current and prospective students, ensuring their academic progression. Oversees the integration of simulation-based education across all EMS curriculum, ensuring realistic and practical training experiences.

Program and Administrative Support - Performs daily administrative duties to enhance and implement innovative credit, non-credit, and contract training programs.
Support faculty, staff, and administrators in areas such as learning outcomes, new strategies, simulation, and course coordination. In consultation with the program director and faculty, coordinates the logistics and administration of EMS scheduling, resource allocation, and communication with stakeholders.

Accreditation support: Ensures compliance with State and National requirements, Maryland Institute of Emergency Medical Services Systems (MIEMSS) requirements, Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for
Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP) and the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Programs (CAAHEP) accreditation requirements.

Additional duties as assigned by the department, school, or college.

Required Qualifications:

Associate's degree is required

Paramedic Certification is required

Minimum of three years of experience in the Emergency Medical Services field.

Strong customer-centric and problem-solving skills

Experience teaching adult learners.

Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Demonstrated commitment to creating an inclusive environment and the ability to deal tactfully with internal and external constituents.

Two or more year's teaching experience in an allied health field using classroom and clinical education techniques.

Ability to work a flexible, 40-hour weekly schedule, including some evenings and weekends, to accommodate the needs of the department and AACC.

A total of 30-36 FLH is required for the fiscal year.

Preferred Qualifications:

Instructor I and II, certification through the International Accreditation for Fire Service Organizations or must obtain within one year of hire date.

MICRB – Maryland State Certification or must obtain within one year of hire date.

Certificate in Teaching the Adult Learner.

High-Fidelity simulation experience; willingness to learn technology.

Pay dates occur on the 7th and 22nd of each month. If those dates fall on a weekend, the pay date occurs on the Friday prior to the 7th and 22nd. As an employee of the college, you are eligible for a comprehensive benefits package.

In the best interest of the College, only individuals who are residents of Maryland or one of the following states will be eligible for employment at the college: Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia or the District of Columbia. The college will annually review this restriction and, if appropriate, expand the list of states of employment eligibility.
