Position Summary
Responsible for the overall material condition of their assigned building(s) and immediate surroundings. The mechanic will perform routine and preventive maintenance repairs as well as initiate and respond to work order requests for service. The mechanic will support learning programs by maintaining furniture inventories at designated levels and in good repair. The mechanic will generate work requests, as needed, for custodial service to maintain facility cleanliness and hygiene at or above acceptable standards.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Maintain, repair, replace and for HVAC equipment and controls (e.g., air handlers, pumps, VAVs, FCUs, etc.), plumbing and plumbing accessories, electrical and lighting accessories, interior finishes and building envelope.
Perform all HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, electrical, flooring, suspended ceilings, roofing and masonry work in accordance with recommended practices in current technical manuals and in accordance with all applicable safety and building codes. Utilize all appropriate personal protective equipment necessary to perform duties in a safe manner.
Perform lighting and building condition inspections, and report the results in accordance with current Facilities policies and procedures.
Perform preventive maintenance on designated equipment in accordance with current schedules.
Monitor the operation of building elevators and lifts and initiate trouble calls for problems or concerns.
Maintain and repair commercial appliances in assigned area, including, washers, dryers, and kitchen equipment. Maintain all classroom and office furniture and fixtures in good repair. Generate requests for replacement furniture.
Establish a constant watch on exterior, classroom, office and common area lighting and replace bulbs and/or ballasts as they fail. Check exterior light timers and reset as necessary. Assure all clocks within assigned buildings maintain correct time.
Report as directed during college closed periods, due to inclement weather, to assist with snow removal or storm damage repair.
Accompany contractors performing services in assigned area to ensure quality of work and adherence to college policies and procedures, and to enhance knowledge of area’s systems and equipment.
Respond to requests for maintenance and repair services at off-campus sites when the assigned mechanic is not available.
Required Qualifications:
High School Diploma/GED
Minimum of five years of relevant experience
Possess a valid driver’s license and good driving record as determined by college policy.
A working knowledge of OSHA and MOSHA workplace safety regulations.
Preferred Qualifications:
HVAC journeyman or master

Pay dates occur on the 7th and 22nd of each month. If those dates fall on a weekend, the pay date occurs on the Friday prior to the 7th and 22nd. As an employee of the college, you are eligible for a comprehensive benefits package.
