Position Summary

The Systems Administrator assists in the administration and support of the college’s network resources such as workstation images, software application packages, printers and shared drives. The Systems Administrator maintains and operates tools used by technology staff to manage client devices (PCs, MACs, laptops, mobile devices) college-wide. Responsibilities also include executing and monitoring scheduled tasks and services such as desktop patching and application deployments.
The Systems Administrator provides maintenance and support of (assigned) systems and applications. The individual also liaises with technology professionals to address desktop and network issues/problems; and performs hands-on problem resolution, as needed.

Pay dates occur on the 7th and 22nd of each month. If those dates fall on a weekend, the pay date occurs on the Friday prior to the 7th and 22nd. As an employee of the college, you are eligible for a comprehensive benefits package.

In the best interest of the College, only individuals who are residents of Maryland or one of the following states will be eligible for employment at the college: Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia or the District of Columbia. Job Duties and Responsibilities

Assists with the administration and operation of client management tool(s) including, but not limited to, the loading of operating system images, building packages, applying desktop patches and deploying applications and updates. Works to ensure desktop clients are current with security patches and updates.
Assists in projects to select, configure and implement tools to be used by technology staff to manage client devices (PCs, MACs, laptops, mobile devices) college-wide.
Responsible assisting Sr SAs with the monitoring, maintenance, and health of the client management tools. Identifying and resolving any issues impacting Defender, MECM, Intune, Deep Freeze, Alertus, etc.
Responsible for following established standards, processes, and procedures used internally by SA staff with regards to the management and maintenance of on-prem, offsite, and cloud resources

Provides assistance to Sr SA staff in providing implementation, maintenance, and support of Microsoft Azure cloud based systems for both instructional applications/services as well as various administrative applications including but not limited to: Azure Virtual Desktop, Azure Lab Services, Adobe Creative Cloud, ARCGIS Online, OneDrive, Teams, M365.

Works to ensure availability of supported cloud tools and services used on all AACC managed workstations

Responsible for management, remediation, and communication of yearly shared drive audits. Ensuring staff college wide are provided with documentation identifying access levels and permissions for various resources. Provides reporting and communication to department leadership when issues are identified.

Assists with the administration and operation of client management tools including, but not limited to, configuring and maintaining the tool(s), creating and loading of operating system images, building and deploying packages, versioning Windows and MacOS devices at a regular cadence to maintain support, and responsible for monthly patching of devices in computer labs and administrative areas.

Provides assistance to Sr. SA staff in the administration of various network resources such as network printers, multi- function devices group policies and home directories.

Works to ensure that changes follow established change management procedures.

Ensures planned testing activities are developed, documented, and executed.

Ensures currency of standards, processes and procedures.

Ensures currency of technical documentation and user procedures/guidelines.

Utilizes project management best practices to lead staff in technology implementations including, but not limited to: application deployments and updates.

Works with customers and IIT team members to research, recommend, and implement systems and applications.

Provides assistance and hands-on technical support in the implementation, maintenance, and support of legacy server and applications for both instructional applications/services as well as various administrative applications including but not limited to: Autodesk, Aurialia, Axiom, DeepFreeze, Dentrix/Dexis, FTK, Maple, Solidworks. Pearson, etc.

Strives to ensure solutions, systems, and content are secure, accessible, inclusive, and compliant with WCAG and other relevant standards. Continuously improves technical skills and knowledge. Documents and tracks service disruptions and requests in the appropriate systems and provides their supervisor with timely updates on project progress, status, and issues

Assist efforts to pilot new technologies to support instruction and/or improve business processes.

Serves as a contributing member to the Desktop Vulnerability Assessment Team (DVAT). At times will be assigned to be a participating member of the standing committee to identify, assess, and remediate client vulnerabilities. Will also be called upon to lead the DVAT requiring the coordination and project management of various teams and resources to remediate issues.

Responsible for monitoring antivirus agents on desktop workstations to ensure compliance with standards set by security team. Provides escalated support and monitoring of malware and viruses reported by staff or Configuration Manager.

Assists Infrastructure Services staff with tuning network software and perform system troubleshooting.
Responsible for addressing (desktop and network) issues/problems; performs hands-on problem resolution, as needed.

Remains abreast of new technologies. Documents and shares information as to how hardware and software changes relate to academic needs.

Conducts research, attends training and remains abreast of new technologies. Documents and shares how these new technologies enhance academic and technology services.

Provides training and guidance to AACC staff and students to develop new technology skills.



Required Qualifications:

Associate’s degree in the field of information systems, computer science or a related discipline.

Minimum of five years of relevant experience.

Current certification such as Network+, Cloud+, AZ-900, or other industry standard client server certifications

Candidate may be eligible for position by substituting two years of additional related experience in lieu of an associate’s degree and certification for a total of seven years relevant experience.

Experience in the usage of client management systems.

Maintains knowledge and/or certifications in technologies including, but not limited to: MECM/SCCM/IBCM, Jamf, MS servers, MS Azure, Windows / MacOS desktop OS, Shavlik, Active Directory, EntraID, VMWare, VDI, SQL, security, network protocols and cloud services.

Strong written and oral communication skills including the ability to explain technical information to non-technical staff and leadership. Self-motivated and able to work in a team environment with the ability to interface with all levels of staff.


Preferred Qualifications:

Associate’s degree in the field of information systems, computer science or a related discipline. Current certification such as Network+, Security+, MCSA or other related field.

Experience with change management processes to effectively communicate changes, develop testing and remediation plans to minimize side effects of hardware and software changes.

Experience in a higher-education environment.

Experience in the administration of MECM and JAMF.

Experience supporting cloud based systems.

Experience with implementation, support, and management of applications and services in the cloud. Preferably Microsoft Azure.








Weekend, evening, and on-call hours may be required as needed.
Ability to work at any College site or location (such as Arnold, GBTC, AMIL, Sr. Centers, etc.) in support of college needs.
Ability to work on-site and remote.
